Hurghada has a well-worn reputation as a beach resort, but the surrounding region offers some of the most varied day-trip options in Egypt. The infrastructure for organised excursions is extensive - the main challenge is choosing wisely rather than booking the first offer that appears at your hotel door.

Luxor Day Trip

The Luxor day trip from Hurghada is one of the most popular excursions in Egypt, and deservedly so. Luxor holds the densest concentration of ancient monuments anywhere on earth - Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings, and the Colossi of Memnon are all within a small area on both banks of the Nile.

The journey covers approximately 250km and takes 3.5–4 hours by road. Organised tours depart around 06:00–07:00 to maximise time on site and avoid the worst midday heat. A full tour typically visits 4–5 monuments across the East and West Banks before returning to Hurghada by late evening.
