Egypt’s Alamein International Airport (DBB) has recorded 57% passenger growth in the summer 2026 season compared to summer 2025, driven by the entry of four new airlines: TAROM (Romania), Enter Air (Poland), BH Air (Bulgaria), and Gulf Air (Bahrain).

New Carriers and Routes

The expanded carrier mix brings Alamein direct connections from Eastern Europe and the Gulf for the first time in the airport’s operating history:

  • TAROM is operating seasonal Bucharest–Alamein service, targeting the Egyptian North Coast’s growing appeal among Romanian tourists
  • Enter Air has launched a charter-style operation from Warsaw, connecting Polish visitors to the El Alamein coast
  • BH Air is serving Alamein from Sofia, Bulgaria, further broadening the Eastern European reach
  • Gulf Air has added routes connecting Bahrain to the North Coast destination, positioning Alamein as a summer leisure option for Gulf travellers

What Is Alamein Airport?

Alamein International Airport opened in 2019 to serve Egypt’s New Alamein City development on the Mediterranean coast, approximately 106 kilometres west of Alexandria. The area is home to a string of private beach resorts, waterparks, and real-estate developments that have driven rapid domestic tourism growth. International charter operations began modestly in 2021 and have expanded significantly since 2024.

Implications for Visitors

The addition of direct European routes makes the North Coast accessible without transiting Cairo or Alexandria for the first time. Travellers from Romania, Poland, and Bulgaria now have direct access to beaches on the Mediterranean that were previously a connecting flight away.

The airport handles seasonal peaks heavily: most international operations concentrate in the June–September window. Visitors arriving at Alamein should confirm ground transport to their specific resort in advance, as taxis and transfers from the airport are not as abundant as at Cairo or Sharm El Sheikh.
